BIO

Eileen Köhler (born 2003, Guatemala) is a visual artist who works from a sensibility, intuition and spontaneity.

Through poetic ways, her work bridges the space within identity, the unconscious with the tangible.

In 2025, she obtained a degree in Liberal Arts with Specialization in Visual Arts and Cultural Management from the Michael Polany College, Universidad Francisco Marroquín. She has complemented her learning with studies at institutions such as MoMA and the University of Maryland.

Several galleries and museums in Guatemala have showcased her work, including Alliance Française Guatemala, Galería El Ático, Palacio Nacional de Cultura, and Galería Municipal de Arte.

Eileen has also presented her work at international showrooms and participated in multidisciplinary collaborations.

STATEMENT

Eileen Köhler’s practice is a response to the speed, information overload, and complexity of our times. Eileen embraces sensibility, intuition, and spontaneity as the essence of her practice and chooses to flow, letting go of the impulse to rationalize and take control. She finds freedom through chance and through moments of indeterminacy. Each stroke records an instant: energy, fluidity, continuity, the absence of duality, and a unique understanding of space.

Eileen’s influences are nourished by the surrealist and magical worlds of Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, and Dorothea Tanning; the fluidity of automatism; the harmony of Taoism, and the study of the unconscious.

Symbolic elements and oneiric characters reappear among abstract strokes and shapes, inhabiting the space: some amid stillness, others among whirlwinds of movement.

As a body of water reflecting all that we shy away from, each work evokes unconscious landscapes: reflections for the spectator to find themselves and recognize their desires, dreams, expectations, beliefs, and memories. Thus, works emerge that invite attention to expand, and through their own sensitivity, explore the territory that unites the visible and the invisible.

It is a gaze upon this world from the depths of our interior, a journey along the space that encompasses the tangible and intangible reality, driven by a nascent, spiritual energy.
